Englewood Arts District Redevelopment I Independence MO
Some projects involve understanding a big idea and developing a visual representation of the concept that helps an organization secure funding to make its dream a reality. Organizers of a proposed arts district asked me to work with them to refine their ideas and create imagery they could use when meeting with potential sources for financial support. Based on what I understood they envisioned, I developed a three-dimensional design of two city blocks that incorporated their short-term ideas and offered other long-term options they had not imagined. This grassroots group who had been envisioning the future together for five years before I met them was excited to see the representation of their ideas. And, they were thrilled to see how they might further expand the scope and functions of the district. As well, governing bodies and funding sources could see the potential for growth and economic development of the blighted area. Support came in the forms of acquisition and renovation funding, and codified designation as an arts district with tax incentives to attract artists to the district as homeowners.
